Hannah was born in 1967 In Oxfordshire. She comes from a line of artists her Grandfather was a painter her aunt a sculptress and her mother a painter. This stood Hannah in good stead for her choice in Vocation. Hannah  went on to study photography  she graduated with a degree in photography in 1988 and set up a thriving business specializing in theatre portraits (with help from the Princes Trust). Sadly, at the age of 26, Hannah was struck down with a disabling illness that prevented her from continuing her photographic business. Due to the severe effects of narcolepsy and cataplexy she was forced to become registered disabled.

However, after battling with the illness and side effects for 6 years, Hannah was introduced to Creative Response, which was to become a major turning point in her life.  Creative Response is an independent provider of arts related services for vulnerable people, working with those who experience mental and physical distress, alcohol and drug related problems, as well as those with special needs.  It was through Creative Response that Hannah was introduced to the medium of oils, a medium that she has worked with ever since.

Hannah’s early works were derived from sky studies, often inspired by her own photographic work on cloud formations.  The study of clouds appealed for a number of reasons.

“I found it very therapeutic.  It allowed me to translate images into abstract expressions of mood and feeling”.

This quality can be observed throughout her work.  Her work displays a sensual quality, which itself is representative of her own experiences as a child.

“I like to incorporate the sensual quality of paint, which I first discovered as a child when I loved to touch my mother’s paintings”.

Hannah entered her first ever oil painting into the established Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in April 2000, but unfortunately was rejected.  However, to her delight, she was subsequently accepted into Not the Royal Academy Exhibition at the Llewellyn and Alexander Gallery in London.

Hannah’s Nudes show a close cropped view of male and female torso. Interested in are judgment of people based on how they look, her viewpoint disconnects us; the body seems somehow different seen at such close quarters. Fascinated by beauty of the way skin covers bone, her work combines an attention to detail and a slight stylization as she interprets the surface of the body.

The latest works by Hannah are her spiritual paintings which were born from a deep meditation. Hannah had a stack of thirty canvas's by her side and a stick of charcoal as she went into meditation the images and shapes came to her whilst her eyes were closed. One by one the outline of the paintings were produced. The amazing thing was that when Hannah came to paint them each separate picture when put against the wall all together actually made one huge painting. This then happened again with a further twenty paintings.

Since taking up painting in 1999, Hannah’s paintings have reached an international audience, with collectors throughout the world, including Great Britain, Germany, Italy, France, Holland, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, Grand Cayman Islands, Portugal, Spain and the USA.

Hannah feels that her painting techniques have changed over the past few years and now has widened her spectrum to include not just cloud formations, but abstract, landscapes and studies of the human form. Her most recent works derive from her interest in the spiritual world and are the product of meditation.

Hannah has undertaken many commissions and in 2003 received a bursary grant from The Businesses Ability (Princes Trust) and from Fredrick’s Foundation to start a business as an independent artist.

Hannah has also become a gold member of the Society for All Artist (S.A.A) and a member of Axis, (which is a website for information on visual arts) where Hannah has at present 15 visuals of her paintings web http://www.axisartists.org.uk.
